The Boring LinkedIn Headline

Once again I was asked to connect to another LinkedIn member. In reading his or her LinkedIn headline, it was boring. Then the LinkedIn Summary served up even more of the blah, blah, blah.

LinkedIn-Headline

Why should I want to connect with this person?

And more importantly what differentiates this individual from all my other LinkedIn contacts?

Far too many people believe the LinkedIn headline within the LinkedIn Profile is where to place your current job position or role such as:

  • Founder
  • CEO
  • Owner
  • Realtor
  • Financial Advisor
  • Salesperson

Then the summary turns into a regurgitation of the resume. BORING! Yawn! Yawn!

Your headline is the first and possibly the last opportunity to grab someone’s attention.

Nobody truly cares about your role or what company employs you.

What they care about is finding a real, authentic person who may be a good client, a good solution provider (vendor), a strategic partner or even a center of influence.

This is your opportunity to shine, to say “Look at me because I am valuable!”

Again your LinkedIn Summary is “the rest of the story” as quoted by famed radio broadcaster Paul Harvey so often said.

If you want to truly leverage the power of your LinkedIn Profile, then cast off the boring, blah, blah, blah LinkedIn headline and summary. Invest some time to write a compelling LinkedIn headline that is emotional and at least different. Complete your effort with a story about you and not your experience or all of your degrees. Save that information for further down your profile.

By taking this action, visits to your profile should increase provided you did your keyword research. And that is a story for another day.
